Group Retiree, Strategic Marketing Director (63985BR)

Medicare is a top growth area for Aetna as an enterprise and for the Government business. In 2020, the Group Retiree business will be responsible for over $10 billion in revenue. This marketing director role is responsible for leading the development and execution of client specific B2B marketing campaigns that focus on enable sales growth and retention. This is a consultative role that works with the Group Retiree sales and account team members to develop B2B marketing strategies and materials for specific Group Retiree prospects and customers.

Fundamental Components:
Develops and owns the complex Marketing strategy that identifies longer term opportunities to provide competitive advantage for one or more lines of business. Acts as a strategic advisor and uses expert level marketing skills to contribute to the development of B2B and client specific marketing messaging, value story and collateral. Executes integrated B2B marketing campaigns that deepen market presence and drive results. This role develops and sets the B2B marketing strategy for large group Medicare clients, including the execution of multi-modal marketing communications campaigns.
-Manages collection and validation of information (from internal sources or through managing outside vendors) to make strategic marketing decisions and plans
-Implements client specific marketing strategies and plans, include multi-modes of communications tactics
-Analyzes and interprets internal, market and competitor information utilizing technology as appropriate; identifies underlying drivers of change and trends as base for future scenarios for client specific work
-Provides information or recommendations regarding creation, change or abandonment of marketing strategies and communications campaigns, include playing a consultative role to large Group customers
-Collaborates across the sales enablement and marketing/advertising organizations, including marketing compliance to execute client specific campaigns on budget and according to the project plan
-Provides analyses of marketing campaigns (i.e. effectiveness, ROI) and/or recommendations on strategies (including where tactics need to be adjusted)
-Develops alternative courses of action and recommends strategic marketing and communications to achieve business objectives for both the Group Medicare business and in support of clients
Manages the activation of marketing programs with in-house agency and/or external agencies, through the close partnerships needed to succeed in a highly-matrixed organization. Provides thought leadership and direction for marketing solutions. Makes data driven recommendations that influence the strategy of the organization. Drives results by shaping content & strategy according to experience with direct to consumer (DTC), business to business (BTB) or business to business to consumer (B2B2C) best practices in both digital and traditional channels. Creates frames of reference to evaluate relative attractiveness and risks of marketing opportunities and threats. Provides analyses and/or recommendations regarding Health marketing priorities and resource allocations to geographic markets, market segments, products, or programs. Develops alternative courses of action and recommends strategic direction of Marketing and business.

Background Experience:
  • 10+ years experience in developing marketing and communications strategies and plans for employers
  • 3-7+ years of experience as subject matter expert as B2B and as a direct to consumer (preferable retirees) marketing and communications lead
  • Experience working with customers (employers) in presenting proposals and communications strategies
  • Experience in managing creative resources (including external marketing agencies) and managing internal communications process reviews
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams (i.e. sales, marketing, RFP, etc.) and work in fast paced sales environment
  • Experience working with or managing cross functional/matrix teams. Master’s degree or MBA preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field, or related experience.
