66121Fundamental Components: This position will work with a team of analysts and business partners to deliver analytics around Aetna’s clinical initiatives and programs. The Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for extraction and manipulation of data from multiple, large data sources and will use advanced statistical/machine learning techniques and analytical and visualization software to conduct observational cohort studies, to design and assess pilots for new products, to develop predictive models and to generate other actionable insights.
|•||Develops, validates and executes analytical approaches and complex algorithms to detect patterns, investigate problems and recommend solutions.|
|•||Aggregates and performs analysis of structured and unstructured data to solve complex business problems utilizing advanced statistical techniques and mathematical analyses. Has specialized expertise in the organization and/or industry.|
|•||Manages large and complex analytical projects through data exploration, model building, performance evaluation and testing.|
|•||Uses data visualization techniques to effectively communicate analytical results that support business decisions.|
|•||Behaves as mentor to junior team members to provide technical advice.|
|•||Collaborates with business partners to develop technical/business approaches and or enhanced technical tools.|
|•||Creates detailed documentation of work for both technical and non-technical audiences.|
|•||Interacts with internal and external peers and management to share highly complex information related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced technology/business solutions.|
- 7-10 years of progressively complex experience with data management and analytics.
- Proficiency in statistical techniques, predictive modeling, data mining/exploration and machine learning techniques.
- Knowledge of observational and randomized study design and predictive modeling methodologies.
- Extensive experience using tools such as SAS, R, or Python to deploy quantitative techniques ranging from descriptive statistics to data mining to deep analytics and predictive modeling.
- Ability to write SQL code (by using any tools/languages like Aginity, SAS, R, Python) to extract and organize data from various data sources (e.g. Hadoop, Netezza, DB2)
- Health care industry and clinical knowledge desired.
- Strong skills to effectively communicate and negotiate across the business and in the external health care environment
- Proven ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners, peers, junior analysts and management.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Degree or relevant work experience in Mathematics, Statistics/Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Economics or related discipline.
