Underwriting Associate

Primary Location: Hartford, Connecticut
Additional Locations: CT-Hartford
Performs underwriting analysis and risk assessment for new and/or renewal of large group prospects and clients. Assigned cases/book of business for Dental and Vision products.

Fundamental Components:
Prepares and delivers routine new business Dental and Vision quotes and/or existing business renewals. Complexity of work increases as technical skills progress. Reviews work with mentor/manager and respond to requests for pricing based on financial analysis, underwriting principles and business strategy. Utilizes basic functionality of underwriting tools, systems, and reference materials to produce accurate quotes and renewals. Applies underwriting guidelines and escalates underwriting exceptions/financial variances for their assigned cases to the appropriate level. With supervision, assists sale personnel in explaining rate/fee and communicating underwriting policy. Produces timely and accurate customer specific documents. Assists department with projects and participates in work groups.

Background Experience:
Experience related to insurance, rating, underwriting preferred. Demonstrated mathematical and analytical skills. Demonstrated success in a production-oriented environment.Demonstrated success in collaborating with others to meet/exceed expectations.Demonstrated success prioritizing work and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.Experience working with standard Microsoft Office products. High School/GED or equivalent experience, bachelor’s degree preferred.
