Senior Accountant, Statutory Reporting Compliance

Transformative role for experienced accounting professionals looking for continued growth and progression opportunities in a large public Company. This role will focus on the overall compliance of Aetna’s insurance companies in meeting the various statutory reporting filing requirements. This role will be integral to the success of the 65-member statutory reporting team and includes the opportunity to redesign processes and controls to more effectively and efficiently meet the numerous statutory filing deadlines. The role will include oversight of the team’s accounts payable, invoice processing and associated general ledger journal entries, along with some clerical/administrative responsibilities. This role provides extensive opportunity to work within a large team to transform its financial reporting process and work across the various company business units.

Fundamental Components:
Job responsibilities include proactively determining all required statutory filing and related fees/assessments for the subsidiary insurance companies, working directly with state regulators as needed to ensure compliance. The candidate will oversee and assist with the electronic and physical (paper) filing of various statutory finance deliverables, including quarterly, annual and audited financial statements and related supplementary filings to the regulatory agencies, along with handling invoices and other fees/assessments related to the subsidiary insurance companies, and booking associated journal entries to the Oracle general ledger. The candidate will have the opportunity to greatly contribute to the transformation of Aetna’s financial reporting processes to an automated, stream-lined state. The candidate will also have the opportunity to lead, coach and review the work of accounting analysts.

Background Experience:
The ideal candidate would have 4 or more years of accounting, compliance, or financial reporting experience. The candidate must be detail-oriented and have strong verbal and written communication skills. Insurance industry experience is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate would also have strong Excel skills and a track record in developing and/or leading process improvements.
