Paralegal II

Primary Location: Hartford, CT

Performs paralegal tasks specific to assigned area.

Fundamental Components:
Under the direction and supervision of an attorney Performs paralegal work in a specific business or general (functional) area of law. With advanced knowledge, may be considered a specialistDrafts legal documentsConducts legal and investigative research and analysisParticipates in or manages due diligence; conducts fact finding and document gathering e.g. document/file review, interviews, discovery and pleading process, due diligence and public disclosureInterprets company policy for internal constituentsParticipates in projects and cases. May lead management of projects and cases. May coordinate personnel and company resources in support of cooperative projectsResearches and applies knowledge of legal, regulatory and procedural developments that relate to specialty, as well as clients' business goals, plans and priorities. May support client initiatives in product development including regulatory review and analysisFacilitates communication as the initial point of contact for outside counsel, regulators and agenciesDevelops and maintains effective working relationships with clients to facilitate effective teamwork, communication and client focusMay develop procedures, processes or guidelines for practice and/or client area, including identifying, evaluating and balancing clients' risksInvestigates and assists in the resolution of member grievances and appeals, claims, legislative and public policy issues using company wide resourcesParticipates in training and professional development of paralegal community; May plan and conduct internal training programs to accelerate group professional developmentMay identify and implement ways to streamline practice, increase efficiency and reduce costMay delegate tasks and assignments, as appropriate; may supervise othersUndertakes a minimum of 10 hours of continuing legal and/or relevant education per calendar year, including attendance at internal company training programs, in-house or outside seminars or courses of study (*)

Background Experience:
Demonstrated analytical ability, communications skills, judgment, integrity and organizational skills in managing cases, projects and assignments.Demonstrated command or mastery of paralegal subject matter.5 to 10+ years of relevant legal and business experience, including demonstrated proficiency in specific practice area(s). Associate’s Degree and or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited ABA program preferred. Bachelor’s degree a plus.
