The General Management Development Program (GMDP) is a full-time, four-and-a-half-year program to take your skills to the next level in your career. Aetna’s president, Karen Lynch, is the program sponsor.

The goals

The program doesn’t just help you develop general management skills; it accelerates your development. You’ll get well-rounded experience and exposure to key business lines while honing your leadership skills.

The rotations

Each of the three rotations will immerse you in a key business area — what we call the “growth engines” of Aetna. These areas fuel our efforts to create a simpler, more affordable, and higher-quality health care system for employers, doctors, and consumers. Each rotation lasts 18 months and is packed with on-the-job experience to position you for success as a future leader. The location of each rotation will vary, so relocation is required.

In addition to learning fundamental technical skills, through this program participants will improve proficiency on the following General Manager competencies.

·Developing Meaningful Relationships

General Management Functional Path

GMDP participants are expected to complete rotations on at least three of the following functional areas: Finance, Network, Underwriting, Project Management, Sales & Account Management, and Operations.Rotations increase in complexity and scope

·Encourage teamwork and a positive environment to improve team effectiveness

·Resourcefulness and ability to quickly and successfully adapt to change

·Demonstrate a commitment to integrity, the Aetna code of conduct and respect for diversity

·Interest in a full-time position within the GMDP upon graduation and mobility for GMDP rotations

Program Fundamental Components & Physical Requirements include but are not limited to

·Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and written, vertically within the organization.

·Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

·Strong analytical and problem resolution skills.

·Progression through GMDP rotations in accordance with the developmental plan.

·Successful completion of GMDP training and program related activities.

·Lead the design and implementation of at least 1 Institution Business GMDP project and actively participate in at least 2 other key initiatives/teams

·Interview, select, mentor, and coach GMSAP interns

·Timely delivery of milestones related to each rotation

Who is eligible

·Bachelor’s degree, focused in Business, Management, or other relevant majors

·3.3+ GPA

·Experience working at a large corporation (internship)

·Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

·Willingness to relocate multiple times based on available locations throughout the program

·Excellent written and verbal communication

·Enthusiastically embraces learning new skills

·Aspiration to a senior level general management position

·Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business and the variety of rotational assignments

·Demonstrated commitment to integrity, the Aetna code of conduct and respect for diversity.
