Actuarial Consultant

Description:
Support actuarial function by applying quantitative skills and analytical methods. Set own priorities within pre-established overall deadlines. Leverage strong technical skills to achieve business solutions and demonstrate understanding of business and product processes. Complete tasks independently with some direction from supervisor.

Fundamental Components:
Leadership: - Management of Resources- Manage personal resources efficiently to complete projects, Exhibit innovative use of resources. - Scope of Decision Making Authority- Provide input into decision making process. - Staffing/Personnel- May mentor intern or new employee. Facilitate training and development opportunities. - Aetna Way- Exhibit behavior that reflects Aetna’s values and is in accordance with the Aetna Way. Product & Business Knowledge: - Assumptions & Data Sources- Demonstrate understanding of assumptions and the process used to develop them. Incorporate understanding of data sources in the recommendation and implementation of appropriate business decisions. - Programs, Policies & Processes- Demonstrate understanding of intradepartmental products, programs, processes and policies; research problems and issues. - Regulatory issues- Demonstrate understanding of regulatory compliance issues. Risk Analysis & Management: - Risk Assessment- Work with supervisor to understand the nature of specific risks. Analyze data and present preliminary conclusions to supervisors. - Rate Filing- Compile and analyze filing data. Prepare and submit necessary exhibits for regulatory filings. - Reserve Analysis- Provide technical support in the analysis of reserve levels. - Planning & Forecasting- Provide technical support and analysis for planning, forecasting and reporting process. - Pricing, Trend & Benefit Design- Develop pricing and trend for product and/or services. Technical Proficiency: - Use of Technology- Develop creative technical solutions to a variety of problems. Demonstrate spreadsheeting proficiency and familiarity with database and web-based applications. - Development & Implementation- Develop and implement appropriate tools and models. - Maintenance & Enhancements- Maintain and develop enhancements to processes, tools and systems. Make suggestions to maximize efficiency. - Business Specifications- Develop and finalize business requirements and/or specifications for processes, tools, and systems. - Testing- Test changes to processes, tools, and systems. Communication, Collaboration & Constituents: - Constituent Focus- Participate in multi-functional workgroups. - Verbal & Written Communication- Respond to routine inquiries and provide support in responding to moderately complex constituent inquiries in an accurate and timely manner. Create and maintain accurate documentation and help develop training materials for tools and processes. - Interaction with Constituents- Under supervisor direction, collaborate with internal constituents.

Background Experience:
1+ year(s) work experience. Employees in the Actuarial Training Program are expected to have a college degree with concentration typically in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Economics or related field and should be at/near associate-ship in the Society of Actuaries.College degree or equivalent experience
