Position Summary/Mission

The Documentation Consultant/Technical Writer uses a variety of documentation strategies, tools and methodologies in the creation, editing, and maintenance of technical documentation for complex and/or enterprise-wide initiatives. Independently assesses and recommends documentation strategies to meet business needs.

The Documentation Consultant/Technical Writer assesses and reports on the effectiveness and ROI of documentation strategies; supports the skill development of Aetna’s documentation community.Works directly with document owners to identify documentation needs to produce a variety of technical publications.

Creates databases, documentation libraries, reports, and tools.Coaches, mentors and oversees other technical writers both technical and behavioral skills for technical writing development purposes.

Responsibilities of the Role

Consults with organisational senior leaders and work groups to develop complex, specialized documentation strategies to improve organizational performance.

Conducts performance analysis to determine the expectations and gaps for the intended audiences.

Simultaneously manages multiple, complex projects with cross-functional work groups to develop the most efficient and accurate documentation.Communicates status and addresses project concerns promptly and effectively.

Develops and monitors documentation usage reports and analyzes trends. Recommends improvements.

Conducts analysis of client and company operating documents and procedures to identify documentationneeds. Prepares or revises documents to illustrate the results of the needs assessment or workflowmeetings.

Translates complicated technical information into clear, concise documents for various target audiencesand distributes up-to-date documentation to appropriateclients.

Creates large complex databases, documentation libraries, and reports to support new projectinitiatives.

Responsible for the archive process and data retention cycle for technicaldocumentation.

Analyzes the impact of process changes or upgrades on existing documentation and databases based onknowledge of interdependencies of related functions and systems. Makes recommendations to management for process improvement.

May serve as an interface between IT Department and departmental users to facilitate beneficial issue resolutionon documentation storageissues.

Performs other duties asrequired.

Background/Experience Desired

Demonstrable experience in business or technicalwriting.

Process improvement mindset with ability to define the most efficient and accurate business processes

Excellent customer service skills

Strong analytical, influence, conflict resolution, problem solving, negotiation and project management skills

Effective verbal and written communicationsskills

Strong organizationalskills.

Previous experience with multiple computer software and graphicspackages

Understanding of health care businesspreferred.

Education and Certification

Bachelor's degree required; Masters highly desirable
