Compliance Lead

Primary Location: Hartford, CT
Additional Locations: CT-Hartford, PA-Blue Bell
Exciting opportunity to join Aetna's Compliance Operations team as Compliance Lead supporting the Northeast Territory.

The successful candidate will play a lead role in providing support and guidance to ensure that all functions, operations and activities are conducted in accordance with Company standards for business conduct and integrity, and all applicable laws and regulation. This position will also play a key role in interacting with regulators during market conduct exams and inquiries as well as driving successful implementation and monitoring of cross-functional projects and corrective action plans to help manage the overall compliance risk in the Northeast Territory. This role requires high levels of collaborating and partnering with regulators, business partners, impacted stakeholders and various levels of management.

This is a specialist level/ lead compliance position that applies advanced compliance, business, analytical and communication skills to support, manage and help develop compliance programs and processes that promote compliant and ethical behavior, meet regulatory obligations and prevent, detect and mitigate compliance risks.

Fundamental Components:
Exhibiting leadership with respect to the principles of an effective Compliance program, including, but not limited to, risk assessment, auditing and monitoring, maintaining effective compliance policies and procedures, and effective communication and training
Building and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external business partners and key stakeholders
Effectively communicating with business partners, removing barriers, driving decision making and influencing ethical and compliant outcomes
Collaborating with key business contacts and members of the Aetna Compliance Operations team to understand and promptly resolve potential compliance issues or gaps
Providing oversight of or preparing complex regulatory reports, non-product filings, responses to regulator inquiries and follow-ups
Managing multiple complex regulatory interactions including market conduct exams, drafting regulatory correspondence, responding to regulatory inquiries and negotiating resolution of regulatory matters
Proactively leading projects by setting strategic direction and managing the project plan/decision log
Partnering with business partners in the successful delivery of compliance related projects
Leading routine business process reviews and collaborating with business partners to identify gaps in processes or organization and developing/implementing solutions.
Auditing/Monitoring adherence to and effectiveness of compliance controls and corrective actions
Influencing change in order to improve compliance results and control effectiveness
Providing oversight and support to help ensure the business area supports key compliance initiatives, manages risks identified and executes mitigation plans to minimize those risks
Supporting the business area by conducting law and regulatory searches and effectively summarizing legal and regulatory requirements
Escalating issues requiring resolution on a timely basis to management
Reinforcing Aetna's commitment to compliance

Background Experience:
5+ years' experience in a regulatory compliance position in healthcare, insurance or financial services;
Proven project management skills and track record in meeting project milestones and negotiating for resources.
Strong communication, analytical, and relationship building skills.
Experience leading cross-functional business initiatives.
Advanced degree and/or management experience desired.

Additional Job Information:
This is a professional level position in the Aetna Compliance Operations department. It offers an experienced compliance professional the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects while supporting the business units that deal directly with Aetna's members, providers and customers. The successful candidate will be able to combine an understanding of insurance business operations with compliance expertise; will have strong compliance, regulatory and/or analytical experience and possess the ability to multi-task in a fast paced, ever changing business compliance environment. In addition, excellent verbal and written communication skills, independent thinking and creative problem solving are required. The ability to build relationships with both internal and external constituents in order to address compliance issues or concerns is key to being successful in this role.
