Unlike any other Commercial actuarial role at Aetna – join the JAM Markets team and support the Aetna Joint Venture businesses in Arizona and Minnesota. Highlights include ACA SG ownership, Sales & Underwriting collaboration, and an in-depth view of the forecasting and budget process – all in a role rich in opportunities to build the skills necessary to become a well-rounded actuary.

Fundamental Components:
  • Ownership of all Small Group ACA competitive intelligence, pricing, filing, implementation, leadership review and results monitoring including necessary cross functional support
  • Driving and supporting strategic needs of Joint Venture Sales teams through developed understanding of sales challenges and market dynamics
  • Perform ad hoc studies and analysis aimed at driving business decisions and supporting market strategy such as: network building and valuation, stop loss strategy, and contractual change recommendations
  • Partner with Underwriting and Product to support ad hoc pricing requests and product strategy needs
  • Working with market finance leadership as a supporting business partner in the Budgeting and Forecasting process
  • Develop communication skills through formal presentations and day to day interaction with Joint Venture and Market leadership
  • Opportunity to work with team members while building a knowledge base including SG ACA, Middle Market, & Large Group segments, as well as Aetna Funding Advantage product


Background Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree along w/4+ years experience
  • Must have passed a minimum of 4+ actuarial exams and pursuing your ASA
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Confidence in communicating to leadership, as well as to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable and effective simultaneously managing multiple projects to completion
  • Skillful at removing uncertainty and ambiguity through a combination of communication and data analysis
  • Attention to Detail
  • Desire to deliver superior customer focus

Balancing the creativity needed to help two start-up ventures grow with the skill to drive change at a 169-year-old insurance company requires a unique skillset. A desire to think outside of the box, an ability to implement new ideas, and a willingness to test the status quo are essential to success. In addition, a JAM Market role provides the chance to work on two markets, each with diverse challenges and distinct needs – including exposure to two leadership teams. This role allows a candidate to shape the job to their strengths, build business knowledge, and create a strong, cross functional personal network, all while supporting the most radical type of transformation within the Health Insurance market – the Joint Venture.
