Assistant Actuary

Primary Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Additional Locations: CT-Hartford, GA-Atlanta, IL-Chicago, KS-Overland Park, PA-Blue Bell
Be a part of the Commercial Actuarial ABX team, whose main functions include:

Identify, simplify, and improve processes and analyses
o Projects vary in scope and level of involvement, but will offer a diverse workload with exposure to multiple people across the organization
o A few examples of current project work include: Examining and improving the turnaround time for the Standard Plans process, pain point prioritization and improvement for Large Group rate review and enhancing the Benefit indexing process.
Use ABX techniques in project work
o Potential to attain ABX green belt certification (lean/six sigma)
o Leverage Commercial ABX team in learning ABX tool application to actuarial projects
Embed ABX Culture into Org
o Work with ABX team to make ABX part of the Commercial Actuarial culture
o A few examples of initiatives underway to achieve this include: sending monthly newsletters with thought activities, delivering quarterly ABX town hall as a team, creation and delivery of ABX soft skills training, and coaching Share Your Idea program
Monitor implementation
o Ensure smooth transition/training
o Partake in continuous feedback loop
o Incorporate feedback from markets into work
o Calculate and monitor ROI from project work

Fundamental Components:
Support actuarial functions by applying quantitative skills and analytical methods. Set own priorities within pre-established overall deadlines. Leverage strong technical skills to achieve business solutions and demonstrate understanding of business and product processes. Complete tasks independently with some direction from supervisor. Compile and analyze data and prepare exhibits to support rate filing development and submission. Manage personal resources efficiently to complete projects and exhibit innovative use of resources. Provide input into decision making process. Provide technical support and analysis for planning, forecasting and reporting processes. Demonstrate Microsoft Excel proficiency and familiarity with databases.

Exercises decision making within scope of authority. Acts as a mentor to new or less experienced staff. Turns data into information and suggests alternatives or improvements. Demonstrates understanding of intradepartmental products, programs, processes and policies. Works with supervisor to understand nature of specific risks and shares results of analysis with management, including financial impact. Develops creative technical solutions for a variety of problems.

Bachelor's degree along w/5+ years relevant experience
Must be an ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA
Commercial experience is strongly preferred
Excellent technical knowledge, including VBA is desired

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Actuarial/Associate of the Society of Actuaries is required
Actuarial/Fellow of the Society of Actuaries is desired

Functional - Actuarial/Modeling & tool development/4-6 Years
Functional - Actuarial/Pricing: manual rate structure development/4-6 Years
Functional - Actuarial/Risk analysis/management/4-6 Years

Telework Specifications:
Open to any location, can be WAH, but prefer actuarial Hub office.

Opportunity to work on process improvement for all of Commercial Actuarial using Lean/Six Sigma techniques governed by ABX methodology.
